Minutes of the BSF Tennis Committee meeting held at 7pm on Friday 9th June 2017 at St Margaret’s Church Hall.

Present: Messrs. Broughton, Caswell, Maslivec, Nuttall, Pearson (in the chair), Prince, Smith, Taylor, Ms K Abbott, Mrs V Browne, Ms L Cartwright, Mrs S Francis, Ms L Perry

Apologies for absence: Ms K Hosker

Minutes of the last meeting: These had been circulated and were agreed.

Matters Arising: The General Secretary had not yet sent the advert addresses to the treasurer but may get around to it this weekend. The honoraria item was an ongoing situation.

Treasurer: All is OK on the Treasury front although I still have not seen the Viridor cheque go through. The Dunlop Slazenger monies have been received.

Match Secretary Reports:

Men’s: Two Mondays had been lost to the weather. In one instance in Division 1, a home team had said that at 6.30pm their courts were fine to play on and included a photo taken just after 6.45pm. However, the away team had refused to attend. After a discussion the decision was that the three points should be awarded to the home team as an away team cannot just decide not to turn up except by agreement.

Mixed: Everything had been running quite smoothly until this last week when matches had been struck with poor weather and very high winds. This had resulted in a lot of postponements. However, two teams had arrived at one club and after a considerable period of knocking up being ready to play, they were taken by surprise when the home team announced that the courts were unfit. Since the rules state that if either captain thinks the courts are unfit they have to resume on Thursday, this was the only alternative. However, Thursday was also a wash out so these matches along with others will have to be rearranged.

It was asked if the loan scheme applied to the Cecil Cup. The answer was yes, as the rules follow the same rules as league matches until you get to the quarter finals. However, it was pointed out that clubs with junior teams should be looking to them first before borrowing from another club.

In last week's Division 4 only matches, there were a number of ineligible players played where the club had not born in mind the rule that applies when a higher team has no match for any reason. Fortunately this had not affected results. We need to remind clubs of this rule just before the last week of the season (22nd August) when only Division Four teams have matches.

Junior League: This had gone well and there had not been any weather problems. One club has had problems fielding a team and were reviewing whether or not to carry on. We had received an email from Wayne Jones who coaches juniors at the Arena with comments re the junior league structure and suggestions for improvement. This will be discussed by a sub-committee later.

Summer League: All but one fixture has been completed.

Winter League: Team organisers need to be contacted and player names requested.

Miscellaneous: David Jones from Lostock had requested a transfer to Meadow Hill where he was also a member. He had only played the first two matches for Lostock and had informed the Club Secretary. There were no objections.

Presentation Evening: The Vice-chairman had a suggestion for a presenter and would follow this up.

Tournament: Due to major problems with the Internet site the deadline has had to be extended to mid-day Tuesday for on-line entries and 5pm Wednesday for written entries, immediately after which the draws will be done followed by the handicaps at 10am Sunday at Markland Hill.

AOB: The Cecil Cup rule were in multi-team clubs lower teams have to be scratched if a higher team pulls out, seems rather unfair in these days when most clubs try to keep teams together in groups. Suggestions were offered and this will be looked at with a view to change next year.
